Cycling in Mamallapuram

Highly skilled sculptors carved scenes of extraordinary detail and
beauty into the rocks in and around the Indian town of Mamallapuram. One
of the most famous shows the descent from the Himalaya of the sacred
river Ganga (Ganges). The carving is about 6 m (20 ft) high, and depicts
gods, celestial beings, and animals gathered in awe along the river's
path, which follows a natural crack in the rock. The carvings date from
the 7th century ad.
